Don’t suffer the post-summer blues this September.  The Hilton Head Island skies are still sunny, beaches are bustling, and lush green golf courses are open for business. Here’s 7 great reasons to visit Hilton Head Island in September:

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort Activities

Golf on Hilton Head Island

  1. The golfing, of course!

With temperatures in the mid-to-low 80’s, September is the perfect time to plan a golf getaway.  The “Golf Island” offers over 20 world-class courses, each with their own unique flare. Be sure to browse our golf specials, then reserve your site in paradise. See you on the links!

  1. Relax on the BeachIt’s still beach season.

We’ll let you in on a little secret: September marks the final month of “beach season”, and it’s the ideal time to visit Hilton Head Island. Whether you’re looking for a shoreline that’s quiet and secluded, close to restaurants and bars, or, a kid-friendly beach with playgrounds and pavilions, this list will provide your perfect match.

  1. Event highlight: LoCo Motion Walk For Breast Cancer

September is a big month for LoCo Motion, an organization that invites people of all fitness levels to join the fight against breast cancer. This 3-day event spans across 3 different islands, each featuring a 10-mile walking course along the South Carolina coast. Where’s the finish line? Hilton Head Island, of course!

Join in on Sunday, September 27 at the Omni pavilion.

  1. Loco-Motion AttractionNo lines, no crowds, no problem.

Extend your summer with a trip to Hilton Head Island after the crowds disappear.  Avoid long waits at local hot spots, get first dibs at that perfect spot on the beach, and end your stay feeling like a local.

  1. Serve, Swing, Slice.

On Hilton Head Island, we take tennis seriously. Hosting more than 500 public and private courts, the island is home to 4 of Tennis Magazine’s Top 50 U.S. Clubs, and 8 of the world’s top 100 courts. Though the sport is a year-round event for Hilton Head natives, September offers ideal weather for a full day on the courts: clear sunny skies with a slightly cool breeze. Whether you prefer a tournament, clinic, leisurely indoor round or even a match on the grass, we’ve got a way to get you in the game.

  1. Bike Hilton Head Island

Did you know: Hilton Head Island was the first U.S. community developed with environmental sensitivity at its core? Bicycle pathways were incorporated into the island’s central infrastructure from the start.

Many locals ditch their cars and utilize 100+ miles of bike trails and paths every day. So, rent a local bike, let your hair down, and experience the rejuvenating and eco-friendly rush of exploring the island on two wheels.

  1. HiHorseback on the beachlton Head Island on Horseback

Experience the Lowcountry in its natural setting, and take a guided horseback tour around 600 beautiful acres on the Sea Pines Forest Preserve trails. Riders of all levels are welcomed to enjoy the tour as it moves at a leisurely pace beneath a canopy of Palmettos and mossy oaks. The 1-hour ride is a “must do” during your stay beneath the September sun.

Hilton Head Island Hacks

Relaxing on Hilton Head Island

1.) Get a table at A Lowcountry Backyard

Not to be missed – A Lowcountry Backyard should be on everyone’s Hilton Head Island bucket list!  It’s famous for its seafood cuisine and boasts a casual, fun atmosphere. Insider tip: they don’t accept reservations, so here are some ways to beat the rush:

  • Come for lunch- everyone else is at the beach
  • Eat an early bird dinner- the restaurant opens for dinner at 4:30 p.m.
  • If you have to wait, enjoy the full bar! Eat appetizers, enjoy live entertainment, and play the variety of games, including putt-putt and cornhole.

2.) Beach with ease! Love the beach but hate the hassle? Here are a few hacks to simplify your beach day and maximize your relaxation:

  • Use a sheet instead of a towel (fitted sheets will keep sand out).
  • Bring a tent if you have small children.
  • Clean out a lotion bottle and use it as a safe spot for your money, keys, etc.
  • Throw a bottle of baby powder in your bag – it easily removes sand from skin and hair.
  • Place your phone in a plastic sandwich bag to keep it protected from sand, sunscreen and water.
  • All beaches on Hilton Head Island are public, but there are only 4 public beach access points:
    • Alder lane
    • Coligny Circle Beach
    • Driessen Beach Park
    • Folly Field

At these access points you will find parking, lifeguards on duty, restrooms, showers, and beach equipment rentals.

  • Don’t bring alcohol or glass – it’s illegal and enforced.
  • Leave Fido at home – pets aren’t allowed on the beach between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Protect the sea turtles.  Read how, here!

Bike on Hilton Head3.) Ride bikes and have them delivered to you, FOR FREE Hilton Head Island has more than 50 miles of bike and nature trails to explore. Ready to cruise through the island? Contact The Bike Doctor, and they will deliver your rental to you – FOR FREE! Mention their ad in the Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort map and get $5 off your rental.

Fireworks4.) Enjoy Family-Friendly Fun and Fireworks On Tuesday evenings during the summer, Shelter Cove Harbour hosts HarbourFest, a free summer event that includes live entertainment, food and activities for children. The event also features arts and crafts vendors and fireworks.

5.) Avoid traffic Most summer guests arrive and leave on Saturdays. Travel on a different day to cut your time spent in traffic. If must get on or off the island on a Saturday, arrive in the early morning and leave late in the day.  Trust us on this one!

Tennis on Hilton Head Island

Tennis on Hilton Head Island

The resort is upgrading with brand new tennis courts!  Improvements will begin on June 22, and will be complete in approximately 8 weeks.  Our existing courts have served us well over the last 35 years, but it’s time to renovate.  During the upgrades, we will remove four of our courts and replace them from the ground up with pristine areas for play.

The new and improved courts will feature:

  • Root barriers to prevent bumps and cracks
  • New, asphalt-based surfaces
  • Fresh paint in royal blue
  • Replacement nets and fences
  • Branded windscreens on fences for focused play
  • Lines for pickleball play

While upgrades are underway:

  • 2 courts will remain open for resort play
  • Additionally, our friends at the nearby Island Rec Center have invited guests and owners to play tennis and pickleball during this time. The Chaplin Tennis Courts at the Island Rec Center are first come, first serve and they are FREE!  Additionally, you can play pickleball there for $1 a day.  Here’s how to get there from the resort:

Looking for an alternate option?  There are also public courts located at Chaplin Park, situated mid-island off US 278.  The Chaplin Park courts feature:

  • Six (6) hard courts with lights (lights automatically shut off at 10pm)
  • Restrooms and water

The full address is:

Chaplin Park Tennis Center
639 William Hilton Parkway (at Singleton Beach Road)
Hilton Head Island, SC 29928

Check back or like us on Facebook for up-to-date information on the upgrades as we have them.  If you have specific questions, we would be happy to talk to you.  You can call us at (800) 722-2365.
September 5, 2015

UPDATE: Our beautiful, new courts are completed! Play has resumed.

June 26, 2015

UPDATE: The upgrades are moving along nicely.  The asphalt on the old courts has now been removed, and together with the old fencing, has been recycled.

47th Annual RBC Heritage

April 13 – 19, 2015

Go pro this April! Or rather, watch those who have.  Wear your plaid and get up close and personal with professional golfers at this prestigious event.

As South Carolina’s only PGA tour event, the historic Heritage, presented by Boeing, allows you to enjoy the beautiful spring weather of Hilton Head Island while watching one of golf’s most notable tournaments at Harbour Town Golf Links, conveniently located just 3.5 miles from our motorcoach resort.  Occurring the week following the Masters, Heritage is an event that is traditionally heralded as a favorite among tour players. While it is attended by over 100,000 fans each year, it is one of the few events that still provides fans with close proximity to the players.  Established by Charles E. Fraser in 1969, the ‘Heritage Classic’ as it was first known, has raised 28 million dollars, predominantly for charities based in South Carolina and Georgia.

If you don’t consider yourself a golf aficionado, don’t worry! Heritage offers something for everyone. Experiencing the atmosphere and becoming part of the roar of the crowd amid the tranquility and paradise of Hilton Head Island is an experience not to be missed. Whether you purchase a pass for the entire week or incorporate a day of grounds access into your vacation time, you’ll be sure to love your visit to Hilton Head Island during this event.

So, reserve your site at the resort and become a part of the tradition – the legacy – that is Heritage.  This week-long event will book up fast, so don’t delay!
